About Me

My photo
I'm a life-long New Englander, father of 4 challenging kids (I know: I'm supposed to say "wonderful", but while that'd be true, technically speaking, it'd also be misleading), and fortunate husband to my favorite wife of more than 20 years. I've got over 20 years experience breaking things as a test engineer, quality engineer, reliability engineer, and most recently (and most enjoyably) a Product Safety / EMC Compliance Engineer. In the photo, I'm on the left.

A Few Weeks out of Whack

We all know that I haven't been at this for very long, and I'm clearly not the most reliable writer around. But these blogger folks don't exactly make things easy, do they?

Every time that they "improve" or "update" the blogger experience, the experience that I get is aggravation!!

Am I the only one for whom these improvements are anything but? I've lost reading lists, my follower list fluctuates by the click (28...29...28....29....27...most 2nd graders can count better!). And some folks who I know are followers aren't listed there! I got a new follower, and they ran to the hills. Another new visitor came along (Hi, DM!).

My admittedly shallow understanding of computers suggests that they should be able to keep track of things. Like reading lists, for instance.

I can't get used to this new "improved" interface, so if you don't see me loitering around where I used to, it's not personal...it's stupidity. Although I'm not sure who's, exactly. :)

Anyone else have trouble with the updates? Any tips on dealing with them?

  1. Blogger has taken in upon itself to stop following some of the blogs I love. I don't know how to make it stop.

    1. It's one of those insidious plots to drive us nuts...and...you...CAN'T...stop it!

  2. There are one or two blogs I follow that seem to go missing from my reading list every now and then so I have to go to my "blogs I follow" list on my home page and manually check on them once in a while...yours is one of them. For a while the home page "edit pencil" on my posts disappeared but it's back. Sometimes my reading list disappears altogether for a few minutes and I have to tease it back by leaving dashboard and then coming back to it. Sometimes photo loading is unbearably slow and at other times it just zips along. They keep adjusting word verification until it is almost impossible to read (and you just can't convince folks to get rid of it). Stats are not to be depended upon. The thing we have to remember is that this service is FREE. It's actually we who are the fleas on the dog in this case so we have two options....take it or leave it. I did check out Wordpress but I didn't like it so opted to stay with blogspot. Some days though, it's enough to make you return to pen and pencil and toss the computer.

    1. It is a valuable thing indeed to remind us of freeness. I suppose it's the unexpected nature of the idiocyncracies that gets me. This too shall pass...

    1. Nope. And why does cookie monster (other than his awesomeness) represent a cube monkey?

  5. I have the same things going on. My blog roll regularly drops people so I don't see new posts. I stayed with the old version, as the new one does crap things that piss me off. But these 'improvements' just make things more complicated and lousier in general.
